Chicken Yakitori

SERVES 2-4 // PREP TIME 10mins // COOK 15mins // TOTAL 25mins

Ingredients:

  • 2 organic, skinless and boneless chicken breast
  • 4 green onions washed and dried
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 2Tb dark agave
  • 2tsp sesame oil
  • Squeeze of half a lime
  • 6-8 wooden skewers soaked in water the night before to prevent burning while cooking meat.

Steps:

  1. Heat up a bbq or grill pan and set on med/high heat.
  2. Cut chicken breast lengthwise then each piece again crosswise into thin pieces. This allows the chicken to absorb the marinade properly and maintain juiciness with out over drying.
  3. Cut green onion crosswise into 1 inch pieces. Start by placing two pieces of chicken followed by a piece of green onion. Continue until you use up all meat.
  4. Mix the agave, soy, lime, sesame oil and blend well. Pour into a deep dish long enough to fit the skewers. Soak the meat skewers on both sides with the sauce and keep next to grill.
  5. Place on the the hot grill and periodically pull of skewers and soak the skewers in sauce back and forth keeping them well coated as you grill them.
  6. Cook until done about 8-10 min. The constant dipping and placing back on bbq will caramelize and deepen the flavour.

Enjoy on top of some steamed rice and veggies or your favourite salad.
